A Better World
A Better World is a daily radio program and mini-podcast that views everyday subjects through the Biblical lens of a Christ follower. It explores how life would look if we applied God’s wisdom moment by moment—and the profound impact that would have on our world. I write, record, produce and voice the program.

Beyond the résumé
Jim Campbell serves as Lead Pastor of Bay West Church in Palm Bay, Florida. He first joined First Baptist Church of Melbourne in 2007 as Minister to Young Adults, but God redirected his path. In 2009, Dr. Larry Bazer invited him to launch the Bay West Campus of First Baptist Melbourne. When Bay West became an autonomous congregation in 2017, Jim was honored to continue as its Lead Pastor.
A 1993 graduate of Troy University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Business Administration, Jim earned his Master of Divinity in Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2006.
Married to Katye since 1997, Jim is a grateful husband and father to three wonderful children: Ann Marie, Susanna, and Braden. Ordained in 1996 by Pine Level Baptist Church in Louisville, Alabama, he began ministry at Union Baptist Church in Kentucky, repositioning their worship strategy and nurturing a growing youth group through dedicated volunteers and God’s grace.
His pastoral experience includes roles as Communications Pastor at The Church on Rush Creek (now Rush Creek Church) and Associate Pastor at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church, where he worked in their award winning TV Ministry. Throughout his journey, he’s held roles in the areas of worship, students, media, storytelling, preaching, young adults, and young marrieds—learning alongside gifted teams. As Campus Pastor of Bay West, he pioneered the “LOVE the Bay” initiative, partnering with Palm Bay’s community and local government to seek the city’s peace and prosperity (inspired by Jeremiah 29:5-7)—a vision that continues to shape the church.
Beyond the congregation, Jim has served on the Youth Committee of the Northern Kentucky Baptist Association, the H.A.R.K. Ministries board (Helping At-Risk Kids through Flag Football), as leader of the Brevard Baptist Association’s Church Planting Team, and contributing to WCIF radio by writing, recordgin and producing the “A Better World” program and articles for Spotlight Magazine.
Theologically conservative and firmly biblically grounded, Jim loves expressing faith through creativity and innovation, leaning into the truth that we serve a God who never stops creating.
Life Verse
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
Family is....
a UNIQUE BLESSING.
I’m deeply grateful—truly blessed—to have been married for nearly 30 years to an extraordinary woman. Katye is an accomplished vocalist and instrumentalist who serves on the worship team at Bay West Church. She’s also a committed leader in our community, currently in her second term as the elected School Board representative for District 5. Beyond that, she serves on the board of The Children’s Hunger Project and volunteers with Junior Achievement and Take Stock in Children.
Our daughters, Ann Marie and Susanna, are gifted musicians vocally and instrumentally; both earned music scholarships to university. Our son, Braden, is a talented jazz saxophonist, performing with his high school jazz band and sitting in with local groups and big bands.
We’re not the “perfect” family—far from it. If that’s what you’re searching for, keep looking. We love deeply. We struggle. We argue, we agree, we fight, we forgive. We test each other’s patience and carry one another’s burdens. Our home is full of artists and musicians, introverts and extroverts, the highly organized and the free-spirited—and I’m good with that. We’re all on our own journeys of faith, at different places and paces, like a little church within these walls. But through every season, we are—and always will be—FAMILY.
Ministry is...
ALWAYS about PEOPLE and JESUS. Years ago in college, I adopted a guiding mission from The Navigators: “Know God and make God known.” For us, the heart of everything is to glorify God by helping people move from where they are closer to Jesus. Ministry is often messy, never easy, but always rewarding. Only a small part happens on a stage—the real impact is seen in transformed individual lives.
It starts with our own personal relationship with Jesus, flows into how we lead and govern our family, and then extends to influencing others—one person at a time or in larger ways. I often say, “If you’re not growing to look more like Jesus, you’re doing it wrong.” Every part of life—vocationally, socially, politically, communally—must must be rooted in commitment to God, His Word, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Katye and I love discipling young men and women one-on-one: walking with new believers toward maturity, supporting long-time believers through growth spurts, or mentoring local students through organizations like Take Stock in Children and Junior Achievement. Whether it’s a student, a church planter, or a local leader, we relish using whatever influence we have to help people draw nearer to Jesus.
My vision for Bay West Church isn’t a calendar full of events and programs—it’s a community of disciple-makers. Every person, from leaders to members, carries the responsibility to share faith and invest in others at their level, all contributing to the Great Commission. I model this, expect it from our team, and recognize that growth looks different for everyone. Commitment to God has common roots, but it’s expressed uniquely in each believer’s life.
Theological Beliefs
Though I share fellowship with many Christ followers from many different Christian traditions, I am a lifelong Southern Baptist and have served exclusively on staff in Southern Baptist churches. I agree with the essentials of the Baptist Faith and Message of 2000. God’s truth is always stable and constant, but personal theology should be always growing and expanding with the goal of being in perfect alignment with God’s truth.
Questions for clarification are encouraged and appreciated.
