Katye Campbell WINS the School Board Seat for District 5!

On November 6, thunderous cheers erupted from Moe’s in West Melbourne, FL as Katye Campbell was declare the winner of the seat on the School Board in District 5 in Brevard County.  From the moment the first results came in, it was evident that Katye would be hard to beat, starting with a 13 point lead.

Katye’s lead hovered at that amount for the rest of the night, until all the 25 voting precincts reported in with 26,073 votes for Katye (57.01%) with 19,660 votes (42.99%) for her opponent, Kelly Damerow.

A victory speech was replaced by a tearful list of “thank you’s” and a plea for continued prayer as she jumps immediately into the position.

From Katye’s facebook page, “Thank you! Two words are not enough. So, I will try to thank you for the next four years by working at what I’ve been called to do with all my heart. I believe good things are in store for Brevard Public Schools.”

In a stunning upset, newcomer to politics, Katye Campbell, stuns the field with 37% of the votes in race for School Board, District 5 seat, in the August 28th Primary in Brevard County.

Andy Ziegler, 10 year incumbent member of the School Board in District 5, took 3rd place with 23% of the votes, finishing just behind Katye Campbell’s November opponent who had 29% of the vote.

This victory by Campbell sets up a rematch in the General Election, as the top two finishers in the Primary go to an automatic runoff in November, since none of the 4 candidates garnered over 50% of the vote.

On July 8, at the Brevard Republican Executive Committee, the BREC and Lori Scott, Brevard Supervisor of Elections conducted another straw poll.   Katye Campbell was able to address the crowd along with other candidates, and it was evident from the jump that the crowd was with Katye.  Cheers and applause was heard throughout the 5 minute speech, and that support carried through the straw poll where Katye comfortably won the day.

Capitalizing on the momentum, Katye won the straw poll by over 12% over the closest opponent, the incumbent.  This showing further showed that District 5 is ready for a change and Katye Campbell is the candidate on the rise.

On June 12, Space Coast Daily, along with the Melbourne Regional Chamber of Commerce, hosted a candidate forum at the Holiday Inn Melbourne-Vierra Hotel & Convention Center, broadcast on Facebook Live.   Katye did a masterful job of presenting her viewpoints on key issues.

Space Coast Daily also conducted a straw poll on candidates.  With 2700 individual respondents, Katye and the incumbent held the top two spots, neck in neck, instantly separating themselves from the rest of the pack.   In the first major public straw poll of the race, Katye and the incumbent finished less than 1% apart

This showing served notice to all that Katye Campbell is a strong candidate in a race that is desperate for change.

On June 9th, at the American Police Academy Hall of Fame building in Titusville, the North Brevard Republican Club held its Candidate Forum.  Candidates for all the races were given 15 minutes to share their ideas and plans for the positions they seek in this fall’s elections.

Katye gave an informed, confident speech, showing expertise on the subjects and fresh ideas that inspired many who listened.  The approval showed in the straw poll when she defeated the closest competitor, incumbent Andy Ziegler, 3 to 1.

Filing for the election was the first step in a long journey.

We’ll need to get almost 800 petitions signed for us to be ready to run.  That’s where you come in!

If you are a Brevard county resident, we need you to sign a petition to help Katye get on the ballot.
The election laws are strict with good reason!  For example, if you don’t enter your name as it appears exactly on your voter registration card, we won’t be able to use that form and we’ll have to ask you to fill out another.
